29 January 2018 – Lliber to Parcent

There were seven of us on our first Monday Explorers walk.   There should have been nine, but two did not turn up. One of the problems of recruiting online.
The walk was almost cancelled when we had a storm and heavy rain all Saturday night.   We decided to go ahead and meet at Lliber as planned, but were not very happy when we woke to heavy clouds throughout the valley.
The rivers were swollen and the tracks turned to mud, so we decided to change our proposed Senija via The Cross walk to a figure of eight from Lliber to Parcent
It was soon obvious that we had made a wise decision, because even on this walk some of the tracks were muddy.   However most were on good surfaces not affected by the rain.
Our first stop was at the picnic site at Alcalali
The sun was trying to break through the low cloud, but it was still quite cold so we did not stop for long.
Most of the group were strangers to each other, so there was plenty to talk about.
We were pleasantly surprised to find that most of the almond blossom has survived the storm, and were looking particularly fresh and colourful
This walk was not planned, and was open to change if the weather got worse.  But in fact it cleared a little so we pressed on to the font at Parcent
It was sheltered at the font and very pleasant, Jan distributed boiled sweets to prolong our picnic break.
The good roads through the valley made it easy to maintain a faster than usual pace, and the easy conversation distracted us from how fast we were going.   So I was quite surprised to find that during our five hour walk we had completed 18km an average speed of 4.5 km per hour.
Despite the weather and the change of walk I think everyone enjoyed the walk.    They certainly all seem quite happy, and perhaps relieved to sit down, here in the bar in Lliber square.
Walk Stats
Distance 18km
Time 5 hours 15 minutes
Total Ascent 160 metres
