29 March 2018 – Col de Rates

Today’s walk seen from our Naya as we had breakfast
Nice to welcome Kevin and Sue, and of course David, back to Spain
A shock to the system for all three, who had not walked much since they returned to the UK last month
Lots of spring flowers today
And David ignored my comments to photographs them
We were fortunate to have another sunny day
Though grateful for a cool breeze whilst climbing
All relieved to reach the mirador
With its beautiful views over the Orba and Jalon valleys
Then the last push up to the Col itself
No apple strudel today, unlike last year
However even better views than from the restaurant
And the mini Easter eggs which Rosemary sent us were an unexpected treat
All downhill for the return journey
Though that can be just as difficult as the climb up

Especially having to watch every step on the rough track
So we took advantage of every suitable water stop

The long level walk into Parcent was a welcome relief

And the long awaited cold drink in La Estuffa even more welcome
A pity there were only nine on today’s walk, the rest missed an enjoyable if challenging walk.
Walk Stats
Distance – 11km
Time Taken – 5 hours
Total Ascent – 575 metres
Total Steps - 13600
