Nine
of us for today’s walk
For
most of the group it was the first time they did this walk, so we had a quick
briefing
We
were lucky to have a bright and sunny morning, rather than the forecast
overcast sky
Cory
was a welcome addition to the group, and David could be relied upon to make her
welcome
Though
German she spoke excellent English and fit in very well with our small
international group
We
didn’t visit the deserted restaurant, though Jan did tell the story
We
also explained the “caution flood zone” on the sign, and how the dry river bed
can quickly become a fast flowing river
We had a short banana stop in Murla
We
also had a short rest before we started the climb to the castle
It
is a long steep climb on quite difficult terrain
And
the track is not always easy to follow
But
we took is slow, and help was always available if needed
We
had lots of short stops to recover and admire the scenery
And
finally reached the castle, which has had work done recently. We were quite surprised to find a lot of it
roped off
Jan
managed to find one of the few shaded picnic spots
With
a great view of the mountains and coast
We
came down the direct route, which is just as difficult at the start as ever
The
track is more difficult to follow than the ascent, but we managed it ok
And
then a pleasant walk back to the bar in Parcent
