12 March 2018 – Castells Rock Arches

Nine of us today, including Carol and John who joined us for the first time

Bright and sunny as we left Parcent, but very strong winds

The winds eased as we gathered in Castells, but as usual the temperature had dropped a few degrees as well

Despite this John was in his shorts again, though the rest of us were well wrapped up
Toilet facilities are always a problem and this looked like a solution.   But will have to be connected first
David usually leads this walk so I had to rely on my satnav, which fortunately did not let me down
Despite the uphill track to the mirador no one had been tempted to remove any layers
A few did so before we resumed the walk

The climb to the arch was sheltered

But it was very windy at the arch itself, and very cold

Despite the cold we had a short stop to take photographs

And a very impressive view it is
A little more difficult coming down than going up
But everyone managed OK
It was too cold to stop for lunch at our usual spot
So we walked back to the finca, which is our cold weather alternative
It is not one of our more impressive picnic locations
But it does provide a wind break, and there is no shortage of seating
After lunch it is a gentle downhill ramble back to Castells
Excellent walk in good company, and nice not to have to worry about the weather

Walk Stats
Distance – 13 km
Time Taken – 5 hours
Total Ascent – 400 metres
Total Steps – 18,000
