12 April 2018 – Olta Summit

Fourteen of us for today’s walk
Strong, cold winds prompted most of us to arrive in jumpers and jackets
However it was calm and sunny when we started the walk
And before long most were in shirt sleeves
Colin was particularly pleased as he had just returned from walking the Compostela Camino in icy conditions.
By the time we reached Finca Pastor we were all ready for our banana stop
Having recovered from the short climb/scramble we now started the longer climb to the summit
Jean has just returned from a non-walking winter in the UK
But she managed this quite challenging walk without any problems

Jan is getting used to her two walking sticks, though they do get in the way when she has to scramble
We all managed the climb in good spirits
Though we were disappointed to find no goats to greet us
We finally reached the summit and the standard group photo
It was cold enough to put our jackets on again
Though the views make it all worthwhile
After a very pleasant picnic lunch we set off again

The rest of this walk is a (mostly) gentle downhill walk
On quite good paths
And with fantastic views of Calpe and the coast
We all hate replacing a comfortable pair of walking boots – but this is taking it to a new level.
Walk Stats
Distance – 12 Km
Time Taken – 5.5 hours
Total Ascent – 630 metres
Total Steps - 16000
