9 April 2018 – Denia to Javea Windmills

Eleven on today’s walk, including four new faces
The forecast was changeable, but we started with a clear blue sky and a light breeze
Easy promenade walk followed by an easy climb
Banana stop at “the ghost town”
Only three takers to visit the abandoned urbanisation
The rest had either seen it before or preferred to sit and recover from the climb
Nice easy ramble over the heathland
More people around as we neared the windmills
Where we had our picnic lunch
With pretty impressive views of Javea and the coast
Diny and Jan seem to be enjoying their first walk with the Monday Explorers
I was surprised that it was not busier at the windmills as it was a local holiday
So we had a very pleasant half an hour enjoying the sun
Tricia and Jon have previously walked with the Wednesday Wanderers and managed their first walk with us without any problem
It began to cloud up as we started the return journey

We returned on the opposite side of the valley, with an excellent view of the abandoned urbanisation and Bernia behind
This is always a popular walk and there were more locals around than usual
We were a little concerned that we might not be welcome in the bar if it was too busy with diners
There was plenty space and the sun put in an appearance
Heavy rain arrived as we were driving back to Parcent, we were very lucky that it did not arrive an hour earlier.
Walk Stats
Distance – 17 Km
Time Taken – 6.0 hours
Total Ascent – 335 metres
Total Steps - 23700
